Damien Lewis is a million-copy bestselling author who has established himself as one of our most popular WWII historians.
Damien will be joining us to talk about his new book SAS Great Escapes II, and recounting some of the extraordinary stories he has uncovered. These are the stories of men who overcame insurmountable odds during the Second World War, crossing deserts, evading hunter forces and escaping through enemy lines.
Damien Lewis’s research is extensive, and relies upon the generous time, help, personal archives, memorabilia and collections of family members of those portrayed. That, combined with individual interviews, and access to newly-released wartime files held in the National Archives and elsewhere, has enabled these extraordinary stories finally to be told.
Damien will be bringing to life the extraordinary exploits of the likes of SAS founder David Stirling, SAS commander Lord George Jellicoe and lesser-known figures such as Bill Fraser and medic Malcolm Pleydell – these are stories that remind us all of the death-defying bravery and fortitude that has made the SAS one of the most extraordinary fighting forces in the history of armed warfare.
‘Lewis has researched his story thoroughly over the course of a decade and tells it like a fast paced thriller.’ The Economist
‘Revelatory.’ Sky News
‘Scrupulously detailed…. Le Carre fans will be delighted.’ The Daily Telegraph
‘Lewis takes the reader on an epic journey of discovery.’ BBC History Magazine
Books by Damien Lewis will be avaliable to buy at the event.
