Scarlet Standen: Don't Knock the Rock

Rocks fascinate me. 

I am forever collecting rocks on the cornish coastline,  they fill my pockets, dragging me down as I trek back to my studio. Pulled from my pocket the uniqueness of each rock is revealed and spotlit.

By removing a rock from its natural environment and singling it out. They find a new identity as my muse, glorified through my practice as the essence of the love I have for the Cornish coastline. I work primarily in printmaking and painting but I am first and foremost a draughtswoman.  Drawing for me is an appreciation of the directness and honesty of the hand.
