This exhibition will be the premier screening of Cornish language short film ‘Gocki Lorden’ written and directed by Bunny Ladd with photography from Ben Poulton. The film, starring Lucas Evamy and Rowan Kelly, will be shown alongside costumes by Bunny Ladd and prints by Ben Poulton.
Gocki, the clown, recalls his fall from grace in efforts to return home after being disgraced from Tintagel Castle by the formerly adoring King Arthur. In naïve, cold desperation, Gocki becomes a sin eater. Already on the outskirts of the community, disturbing happenings hurtle Gocki into the realms of pagan curse.
Bunny’s childhood career as a competitive gymnast meant she had regularly worked in circus and performance, and after taking a course in clowning, found her costumes stepping into the shapes of Pierrot. With cold sprays of the Atlantic colouring the sleeves and bodices, Bunny was inspired to write ‘Gorki Lorden’.
The project was helped to realisation by fellow local artists and makers and is a salute to Cornish arts, history and mythology. Whilst being a form of community connection and collaboration, it is fundamentally a film made by members of the Celtic region it aims to celebrate.’
Bunny Ladd and Ben Poulton are Cornish artists who met at school. They later moved to London but creatively increasingly felt themselves drawn back to the magic and mythology of their roots: Ben as a photographer and Bunny as a short story writer and costume designer.
