The third event in “The Future Of …” series at The Poly will focus on Climate.
How we act today will affect the climate of the future but how much can science tell us about our choice of possible futures?
Climate change isn’t just about being green, it also raises exciting, foundational challenges in science. It requires us to question what we know and how we know it.
The subject is critical for society of course, but the science of climate prediction is young and many of the methods are new. Just how much can science, and social science, tell us about the consequences of our current policy choices. How can we judge what information is reliable and what is open to question?
Join Prof. David Stainforth from the London School of Economics and Prof. Stephan Harrison from Exeter University to discuss these issues.
Prof. Stainforth will present his new book (Predicting Our Climate Future - what we know, what we don’t know and what we can’t know) and together they will explore why climate predictions are a messy mix of the truly robust and the deeply puzzling. This will be followed by a Q&A session, giving audience members the opportunity to raise questions across the realm of climate change science and policy.
