A fun and experimental 3-day workshop for those who would like to learn more about painting with oil and cold wax. The workshop will be a deep dive into various techniques and processes and focus on how you can creating atmospheric landscape paintings, full of layers, texture and depth.
Receive personalised support, experiment with various tools and materials, and learn how to incorporate additives such as powders and pigments. The workshop will also cover abstraction, tone and value, working intuitively, colour mixing and compositional techniques.
You'll also learn how to develop a series and find your personal voice while receiving 1:1 feedback. The workshop will also include plenty of tutor demonstrations and time for experimentation and play.
By the end of the 3 days, you will of created a small series of around 15 atmospheric landscapes on both paper and board.
Experience
No prior experience of oil and coldwax is needed, just a willingness to be open and go with the flow. You may have already participated in one of my shorter courses or online webinars (available through The St Ives School of Painting) or worked independently with the medium. If so, you can then build on your existing knowledge with my specialist support.
The workshop will cover:
• Working on paper & board
• How to develop a series & find your personal voice
• Introduction to abstract landscapes
• Scaling up
• Tone and value
• Line and shape
• Basic colour theory & mixing
• Compositional techniques
• Experimental mark making techniques
• How to build layers of colour (opaque and transparent)
• Working wet into wet & also wet into dry
• Working intuitively & how to loosen up your approach
• How to incorporate oil sticks and drawing mediums
• Drips, pours and glazes
• Using additives such as powders, sand and pigments
