Piskie Led
Tales and traditions of Cornish Piskies
with Keith Wallis
In this talk we’ll be exploring a range of weird and wonderful stories and encounters with Cornish Piskies, from tales of mischief, revenge, hidden treasures, teleportation, drinking, dancing and trips to fairy realms.
All across Cornwall, from the wild and windswept moorlands, along the beaches and coves, among the ancient carns and quoits, even from farms and cottages come stories of the Cornish Piskie. Often seen as a symbol of good luck, they can be helpful and playful, but they can also be vengeful and wicked. We’ll be taking a closer look at these fairy folk, what we know about them from written accounts, as well as interviews with everyday Cornish people in years gone by, and asking why they play such an important part in Cornish folklore and traditions.
Keith Wallis is host of The Piskie Trap - a podcast series exploring the folklore, history and legends from across Cornwall. His recent work has involved a number of collaborations with leading historians, writers, folklorists and storytellers, as part of a movement to preserve local folklore traditions, and to promote Cornish history and heritage
