Sue Lovell: Threads of Transformation

The Threads of Transformation exhibition, in tandem with yoga workshops at the Poly, will illustrate & give a visual response to the transformational aspects of nature, alchemy & yoga. We weave together our interests, our ways of making sense of the world around us – I have ‘narrowed’ mine down to 3 strands! These are: The magnificent the natural world – trees, birds, landscape, the planets, stardust …. a continual source of inspiration for my work.

Alchemy – the process of evolving the mundane into the profound – turning base lead into gold.   The 3rd strand – the esoteric visual language of yoga – wisdom from the ancients, giving us a practical map to the evolution of human consciousness.

The process of plaiting these 3 strands together is my quest for the essence of things, providing the tools & processes in an attempt to answer the question ‘who am I?’- the question that has fueled human creativity for millenniums.

With the above as a lofty ideal – I approach making art with a sense of joy – with a love of drawing & colour -  the making process is my natural state.

‘As the microcosm represents the macrocosm, the human body epitomizes the entire structure of the universe’
