Dir. Radu Jude | 2025 | 109 mins | German, Hungarian, Romanian with English Subtitles
Radu Jude, the audacious director behind Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (favourite from CFF 2021), and Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World, returns to Cornwall Film Festival with another sharp-witted satirical drama.
Ezster Tompa stars as Orsolya, a bailiff in Cluj, Transylvania whose decision to evict a homeless man from a basement spirals into grim consequences. Wracked with guilt, she is forced to confront the thorny ethical dilemmas at the core of her job.
Shot entirely on iPhone, Kontinental ’25 places Jude alongside Sean Baker (Tangerine) and Steven Soderbergh (Unsane) as a pioneer of guerilla filmmaking. The poverty and destitution haunting the city is emphasised by the gauche digital textures.
Winner of the Lux Film Festival Grand Prix.
"Jude is operating on a completely different level than most of his contemporaries" - Nick Schager, The Daily Beast
