Algoshorts is the world's first public film festival of short films about, or made with the help of, algorithms. This is the second edition of Algoshorts. Since the previous Algoshorts there has been an explosion of algorithmic film-making, the most famous of which are collected together here. With 400 submissions to consider, the festival team picked and sourced a selection of the best from around the world.
The short festival includes films written / created by algorithms which star actors such as David Hasselhoff and Thomas Middleditch (of HBO's Silicon Valley). There'll also be computer game-generated machinima, the premiere of a romantic comedy written with a new AI algorithm "Zenman", a story told by a chatbot in love, and a short predicting the future of algorithmic reality, in the spirit of "Black Mirror". Philip K. Dick would've been proud!
Algoshorts will open with short talks by Marie McNeill, a commercial film and TV writer, and festival director Alexis Kirke, a short film director and artificial intelligence researcher. Marie will argue against the future dominance of algorithms in movies, and Alexis for.
