Dir. Stanley Kubrick | UK/USA 1980 | 144 min | 15
We’re getting in the Halloween spirit with a film chosen by you! One of Kubrick’s most celebrated films - consistently voted the best horror film of all time. This director’s cut version is even more enigmatic and elliptical than the original - so get ready for this masterful and visceral film on the big screen.
From a script he co-adapted from the Stephen King novel, director Stanley Kubrick melds vivid performances, menacing settings, dreamlike tracking shots and shock after shock into a milestone macabre. In a signature role, Jack Nicholson plays Jack Torrance, who comes to the elegant, isolated Overlook Hotel, as the off-season caretaker with his wife (Shelley Duvall) and son (Danny Lloyd). Torrance has never been there before - or has he? The answer lies in a ghostly time warp of madness and murder.
