Dir. Valérie Müller | Russia/France 2014 | 112 min | TBC - 12A
Polina wants to dance. But her creativity is hard to reconcile with the rigours of classical ballet at the Bolshoi. She needs to find her own voice. No matter how difficult that may be.
It’s her life. She’ll dance it her way.
Directed by Valérie Müller and internationally-renowned choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, Polina is a gorgeous coming-of-age film following the artistic growth of a young Russian ballet dancer from her childhood training for the Bolshoi through to her final career in contemporary dance.
It features international dance stars Anastasia Shevtsova (Mariinsky Theatre) and Jeremie Belingard (Paris Opera Company) alongside a strong cast supporting cast led by Oscar Winner Juliette Binoche.
As well as being full of stunning dance sequences, it is also a beautiful story about finding your own inner strength and confidence in order to be creatively fulfilled.
