Bristol based saxophonist and composer Alex Merritt leads a standout quartet performing fresh original music shaped by influences from Ravel and Messiaen through to modern jazz innovators. The set will also feature arrangements of classics by Joe Henderson, John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk, weaving a unique musical journey—rich in colour, energy and surprise!
The band features three leading UK players: Rebecca Nash on piano, Will Harris on bass, and Jeremy Stacey on drums.
This project marks Alex’s return to the classic quartet format following his acclaimed album Anatta (2016) and recent releases on Fresh Sound New Talent — Mind-Ear-Ladder (2022) and Common Threads (2023). Expect inventive writing, strong interplay, and a powerful live sound as the group brings new material to The Poly as part of their exciting nationwide tour in Jan–Feb 2026.
“a promising debut, of striking quality” - John Fordham, The Guardian.
