Advanced Pottery: Raku (4 Week)

Join our specialised 4-week Advanced raku course, deep dive into making and explore the stunning results of this ancient Japanese firing method.

This is a practical course for those who have an extensive knowledge of working with clay. Who are looking to further expand existing skills and broaden their knowledge of different kinds of firing techniques.

The course will look closely at building on your experience and develop your design ideas much further. Tailoring glazes and firing techniques to your individual project. As well as looking to develop further your chosen construction techniques.

What is raku?

Raku is an ancient Japanese low-firing method, using combustible materials to create fantastic effects. Red hot pots are pulled out of the kiln at 1000°c creating unique crackled glazes, metallic sheens, and dark, earthy patterns on your work.

Should I be on the Advanced Course or the Intermediate?

The intermediate is for learners with more experience, looking to develop their own projects, improve skills, and develop ideas with support.

Advanced learners have a broad understand and are looking to develop projects of their own. Also looking only for technical assistance to realise their ideas fully.

All materials and equipment provided.
