Ever wanted to dip your toes into the world of raku? Join our one off 4-week beginner’s handbuilding course and explore a mesmerising ancient firing method.
This 4-week course lets you dive straight into making, getting to grips with various handbuilding methods like coil and slab, alongside the opportunity to explore the fantastic world of raku!
Over the four weeks you will explore a variety of building methods, explore surface decoration and texture, and watch your pieces change before your eyes in a fantastic firing day!
What is raku?
Raku is an ancient Japanese low-firing method using combustible materials to create fantastic effects. Red hot pots are pulled out of the kiln at 1000°c creating unique crackled glazes, metallic sheens, and dark, earthy patterns on your work.
This course is designed for complete beginners and for those with just a little prior experience.

POTTERY WORKSHOP: BEGINNER'S HANDBUILDING RAKU
When: Mondays, 2pm-4pm or 6.30pm-8.30pm

Where: The Poly Pottery (at the back of The Poly, accessed from New Street)
Duration: four weeks
Class size: eight per class

Cost: £129,
A £1 Poly Fund payment is added to each ticket sold. A 50p booking fee is also applied per ticket for online and telephone transactions.
