CFF: Hope (15)

Dir. Na Hong-jin | 2026 | 157 mins | Korean with English Subtitles

Ten years after THE WAILING, director Na Hong-jin returns with a spectacular collision of sci-fi, horror, action and dark comedy.

In the remote South Korean village of Hope Harbor, police chief Bum-seok and officer Sung-ae are called to investigate reports of a mysterious creature wreaking havoc. With reinforcements diverted to fight wildfires and communications cut off, a group of locals heads into the mountains to hunt the beast, only to discover that they are now the ones being hunted.

What begins as a strange local mystery escalates into something far bigger, as fear, misunderstanding and human conflict threaten catastrophe on a cosmic scale.

HOPE brings together an extraordinary international cast including Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung and Hoyeon, alongside Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, Taylor Russell and Cameron Britton. Premiering at Cannes 2026, Na Hong-jin’s long-awaited fourth feature is big-screen filmmaking at its most ambitious: visceral, unpredictable, funny and exhilarating.

'A breathless rollercoaster ride, 2026's must-see monster movie' ★★★★☆ BBC
