CFF: Glorious Summer

Dir. Bartosz Szpak, Helena Ganjalyan | 2026 | 88 mins | English, Arabic, French, Georgian, Japanese, German, Polish, Swedish

Imagine a world where summer never ends, every desire is fulfilled and responsibility is a thing of the past. What could possibly go wrong?

Within the beautiful walls of a Renaissance palace, three young women enjoy an apparently perfect existence. Food, entertainment and daily wellness rituals are provided by a mysterious, unseen system. Their lives are comfortable, carefree and meticulously controlled. The only condition is that they must never leave.

But beneath the dazzling sunshine and picture-perfect surroundings, something darker is stirring. As the women develop a secret language of touch and begin rehearsing increasingly disturbing rituals, their growing desire for freedom threatens to unravel the illusion.

Making their feature debut, directors Helena Ganjalyan and Bartosz Szpak deliver a strikingly original, visually sumptuous dystopian fable that recalls the unsettling worlds of Yorgos Lanthimos. Blending absurdist humour, psychological tension and dreamlike imagery, Glorious Summer asks a provocative question: how much freedom would you surrender for a life without worry?

Premiering at SXSW 2025, and winning SXSW 2025 Special Jury Award, this bold and atmospheric film is an intriguing exploration of autonomy, female identity and the hidden cost of a seemingly perfect life
