CFF: Tender Loving Care

Dir. Mike Leigh | 2026 | 107 mins | English

Amy is a child protection social worker accustomed to dealing with other people’s crises. When her own long-term relationship ends, she moves back in with her upbeat best friend Rosie, who works in social care for older people.

Their reunion brings companionship and laughter, but Amy’s parents are facing changes of their own as her father’s health begins to deteriorate.

Writer-director Mike Leigh returns with another keenly observed portrait of everyday British life, looking at the people who spend their working days caring for others while navigating their own relationships, disappointments and responsibilities.

Starring Kate O’Flynn, Alice Bailey Johnson, Marion Bailey and Paul Jesson, TENDER LOVING CARE combines Leigh’s characteristic humour with enormous affection for its characters. Winner of the Golden Shell for Best Film, Best Leading Performance & Best Screenplay at the 2026 San Sebastian International Film Festival.
