Announcing a season of Cornish Film at The Poly!
Falmouth’s Arts & Culture venue, The Poly, has been awarded £2,000 to present a Cornish Stories On Screen film season this summer with the support of the BFI Film Audience Network, awarding funds from National Lottery.
Reflecting Cornish life, culture and identity on screen, the programme will run through July and August and will present locally made independent films celebrating Cornish identity, heritage and filmmaking talent. It follows on from the recognition of the Cornish national minority status - bringing Cornish stories and voices to a communal space where they can be experienced and enjoyed.
This exciting season of films will feature emerging and established filmmakers including Mark Jenkin, Daniel Simpkins, Angus Breton, Ben Fullman and Tim Seyfert – and will include live events and filmmaker Q&As as well as film screenings.
Programme highlights include Mark Jenkin’s Bait, Enys Men and Rose of Nevada, alongside contemporary Cornish films such as The Lost Boys of Carbis Bay by Daniel Simpkins and Angus Breton, Edge of Summer by Lucy Cohen, Gentle Angry Women by Barbara Santi and The Severed Sun by Dean Puckett.
The Poly’s Director, Ed Cartwright says:
“Combined with its strong cultural identity, Cornwall is incredibly rich with creative and filmmaking talent. This BFI Film Audience Network (FAN) funding will allow us to put Cornish films centre stage and give our community even more opportunity to celebrate our shared culture and enjoy these films together.”
For more detailed information on the programme, see the poly.org. Booking can be made online or via the box office on 01326 319461.
