Salathé - Blood, Sweat & Bagels

Dir. Richard Heap | 2000 | 55 mins | English

Neil Bentley and Richard Heap had a dream to tackle one of the world's most spectacular and difficult free-climbs ¬ the 3000-foot "Salathé Wall" on El Capitan in Yosemite Valley.

This film follows their adventure as they try to come to grips with the unremitting nature of the granite terrain, with five days of living in a vertical world and, more importantly, with the conflict that arises when dreams meet reality.

Authentic, intimate and brimming with humanity, the film shows that failure is as important as success when underpinned by strong friendship and a love for masochism.

This screening will be shown with two short films from Richard Heap - Splinter (4 mins) and Choss (9 mins).

Splinter

Watch Malcolm Smith (fired up on tabs and coffee) attempt to repeat the problem he trained on for the second ascent of Hubble. A magical slice of late 90’s climbing life.

Choss

Filmed on the North Devon coast, this film, both funny and harrowing, dives deep in to the psychology of climbing rubble. Starring Dave Thomas and Martin Perry.

Age recommendation 12+

Shown in collaboration with BoulderRyn Falmouth and Penryn's only indoor bouldering space, click here for more information.
