A fun and stimulating 3-day workshop for those who want to learn more about painting with oil and cold wax, set in a beautiful seaside location. (Cold wax is a diverse medium that adds body, transparency and depth to oil paint while speeding up its drying time.)
During the workshop you will aim to record the shapes, colours and textures of the Cornish landscape in a loose and abstract way, using a variety of processes and techniques. You will work with photographs, books and natural materials. I will share how I use memory and imagination to create my own evocative paintings. (Participants are also invited to bring their own landscape-related source material, if they wish.)
The workshop will be a deep dive into various coldwax techniques and how these can create a series of atmopsheric landscape paintings full of layers, texture and depth. You will receive personalised support, experiment with various tools and materials and connect with the Cornish landscape through a personal response to place.
The workshop will cover an introduction to abstraction and how to loosen your approach to paint more freely and intuitively. There will also be several tutor lead painting demonstrations and the opportunity for structured 1:1 mentoring.
By the end of the 3 days you will have created about 15 paintings on paper and pushed the boundaries of your own creativity.
Price includes all specialist materials, tools & refreshments.
Age 14 Plus only.
This workshop will be led by artist Laura Menzies who has been teaching for over 15 years and holds a BA, MA and PGCE.
