From Blossom to Bottle: The Story of a Cornish Orchard
Sally Pyner, Growth Manager at Kehelland Trust talks about the 220 strong apple tree collection at the orchards at Kehelland. She delves into the many facets of managing and utilising the orchard trees and how the charity has ensured they get the best possible outcomes: for education, biodiversity & commerciality– grafting, summer budding, orchard management & processing crops into juice for retail sales as well as the celebration of our orchards – Wassailing & National Apple Days.
Sally has worked at Kehelland since 2002 and has always had a passion for apples. She launched the Kehelland Apple Day that has been running since October 2004 and has been responsible for business development for the orchards and apples for over 20 years, resulting in tree propagation, workshops & juice production.
All of the work and commercial enterprise stemming from the orchards is vital outreach to support Kehelland’s day-to-day work with young people and adults with learning disabilities in their college and day service.
